If the name "Shakira" means "hips" in Colombia, I would have agreed to the connotation. Unfortunately, it doesn't, but it will always convey the same damn thing to me: pelvis, sway, belly dancing. Shakira to me conjures up an image of a successful (and very much hot) swan-woman - maybe Lebanese, maybe Latin, but still very universal. She can sing (albeit when she was young, she sounded like a goat). She can rock and shock, and she can make people weep.
