Among the most famous names are Suri and Shiloh. These are the names of the daughters of two of Hollywood's famous couples, Brangelina and Tomkat. Shiloh is the name of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter. Suri, on the other hand, is the name of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter.
Meaning of the name Shiloh
The name Shiloh can also be used for a baby boy. The name is of Hebrew origin and it means "His gift." It is also a name of a Biblical place. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt named their daughter Shiloh Nouvel. The best thing about the name is that it is unique and it sounds beautiful.
Meaning of the name Suri
Suri is Persian in origin. The name means "red rose." The name is usually transliterated into Souri. According to some, Suri derives from the Hebrew Sara, which means "princess." Suri also means "Sun" in Indian. Given its various meanings, Suri is really a suitable name for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' little princess.
Shiloh and Suri are really good names. They are short and great-sounding. The best thing about these names is that they're very unique and do have wonderful meanings. If you want to give your baby a unique name, you should opt for words and names that are ancient in origin or those that have come from far off places. Choosing a unique name for your baby is important. It would give your child an idea of how much you lover her. when she grows up, she would feel special with her unique name.

If the name "Shakira" means "hips" in Colombia, I would have agreed to the connotation. Unfortunately, it doesn't, but it will always convey the same damn thing to me: pelvis, sway, belly dancing. Shakira to me conjures up an image of a successful (and very much hot) swan-woman - maybe Lebanese, maybe Latin, but still very universal. She can sing (albeit when she was young, she sounded like a goat). She can rock and shock, and she can make people weep.

"Shakira" is an Arabic phrase which means "Woman of Grace". If anything, this is the same woman who had an affair with the son of an Argentinian president. Shakira is also the woman who rocked the World Cup 2006 (did you freakin' watch that?) with her performance that shook the stage "Hips Don't Lie" along with Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean (a member of the now-defunct but still intermittently-performing "The Fugees"). The song propelled itself to the top of the American and UK Billboard Charts when it was released early this year.

It would be a huge dishonor not to look beyond the "hips" and elsewhere less erotic. Shakira could also mean a prodigy, a thief, (as in ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones? - a previous smash album) or a child with a soul. It may be remembered that Shakira was honored at a United Nations ceremony because she created the "Pies Descalzos Foundation", a charity that helps to protect children from violence in Colombia. There is always something beyond those damn sexy hips, like I said. Don't let the name mislead you.

After four decades, five actors, and 20 films, we have seen the most beautiful women opposite one of the most famous hero in Hollywood. The James Bond movie series, based on the Ian Fleming novels, has a tradition of casting a gorgeous woman alongside the hunky British spy. Popularly known as Bond Girls, they are often victims rescued by Bond, fellow agents or allies, villainesses or members of an enemy organization; sometimes, they are mere eye candy and have no direct involvement in Bond's mission. Being a Bond girl is typically a high-profile part that can give a major boost to the career of unestablished actresses. Casino Royale, the 21st film in the series, is currently in production starring Daniel Craig as Mr Bond.
For portraying as either a love interest or sex object of James Bond in a film, novel or video game, Bond girls typically have names that are double entendres. Ursula Andress was the first Bond girl with Sean Connery in the 1962 film Dr No as a character named Honey Ryder. Notable Bond girls with double meaning names include Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore (Goldfinger), Lana Wood as Plenty O'Toole (Diamonds Are Forever), Lois Chiles as Holly Goodhead (Moonraker), and Maud Adams as the title role Octopussy.

She probably has the most beautiful Oriental face the West has ever seen. Ziyi Zhang is one of the most well-Chinese actresses in Hollywood. She had worked with acclaimed directors like Zhang Yimou, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-Wai and Rob Marshall. She was born in Beijing, China and joined the dance academy at the young age of 11, and at 15 entered China's prestigious Central Academy of Drama. She was 19 when Zhang Yimou directed her in The Road Home which won the Silver Bear award in the 2000 Berlin Film Festival. The Oscar-winning Ang Lee movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon introduced her to the western audience and was followed other movies like Hero, House of Flying Daggers, 2046, and Memoirs of a Geisha.
For the eastern audiences she is known as Zhang Ziyi. Her last name Zhang can be literally translated as an essay or a chapter of a book, Zi means child or esteemed person, and Yi means joy or happiness. Having a very cute and meaningful name, a lovely face, and a sexy body, it's not surprising that many parents in Asia, and even in North America, would want to name their daughter after Ziyi.

My friends and I have a lot of things in common, including our admiration for Wynona Ryder. Born Winona Laura Horowitz, this woman has enchanted people all over the world because of her beautiful face and her Academy-nominated performances. The actress was named after her birthplace which was Winona in Minnesota. She was the daughter of Cindy Istas and Michael Horowitz.
Originally, her father's surname was Tomchin but they were named wrongly. The Horowitz was the family they traveled with when they came in Ellis Island during 1906. They were assigned the same surname instead of carrying the name Tomchin. She is a natural blond, but fans only saw that in the movie Mr. Deeds which was released in 2002.
I remember reading about her in the newspaper 5 years ago about a shoplifting incident. According to the report, Wynona shoplifted over a thousand dollar's worth of accessories and clothes in Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. As if the shoplifting accusation was not enough, she also was charged of being a drug user. Although these incidents and issues tainted her image, I still admire the fabulous looking girl. Incidentally, the name Wynona is from the Native American language which means "First Daughter."

I just love the indie movie actress Bijou Philips. She is just spectacular in her movies. She may have that angelic and beautiful face, but, she can really act out some challenging roles. She is also the girlfriend of Danny Masterson, another favorite of mine. Anyway, I liked Bijou before because I liked her name; it is not so common in America, you know?
Turns out that the name Bijou means "jewel" in the French language. I just love how it sounds. It is very unique, indeed. In 1668, the French introduced the term Bijou to the English language. Bijou is pronounced as be-zhu. You have to pronounce the middle consonant with a "z" sound rather than a soft "j" sound. It is really very French. This name has always been associated with gems and jewels; it really does sound exquisite, doesn't it?
The name Bijou is really a diamond in the rough, if you ask me. It is still not that common elsewhere in the United States. So, I would gladly name my daughter Bijou when the time comes. She might even turn out to be an acting gem like my favorite, Bijou Philips.

If you are thinking of a new name for a gorgeous lady, you can name her Venus. Venus is common name tag to a lady with a beautiful face, appealing body, and has a strong character. Originated in Latin, this name is pronounced as VEE-nus. Venus is also referred to a Roman goddess, and the sister planet of Earth, and the counterpart of Aphrodite in Greek.
There are a lot of women who were baptized with this name. It is because the forename Venus defines beauty, love, and charm of a lady. More so, Venus signifies the femininity or a female gender; and its symbol is a small circle with a cross below that used in biology.
Based on U.S. Census, in 1990, Venus was ranked as the 1232th from 4275 surveyed first names for female. Also, from the same statistics, Venus is an ordinary last name of people, since it got the 48818th rank from all 88799 surnames. Venusita, Venusa, Venusina, and Venusette are the names derived from Venus. Tennis player, Venus Williams, is one of the ladies who possess the name Venus.

Have you ever wondered where your parents got your name? Do they actually know the meaning of the name they gave you? Honestly, I'm actually wondering why my friend's parents named her Gregory, yet she is such a beautiful lady? Is there something about the name "Gregory?"
Parents usually give their son or daughter a name with a meaning. However, for my female friend, it is very odd to hear a gorgeous lady carrying a brusque manly name, like Gregory. I hope that her parents modified the spelling of her name to make it sound girly, but unfortunately, they didn't.
What's my point here? The dilemma is, my friend is joining in the town's supermodel contest for next month's festival. What if the host calls her Gregory for the first time, he or she might confuse if he or she is calling a lady or a man.
Well anyway, whatever the purpose of Gregory's parents for naming her such, it's no longer my business. By the way, my name is Dolo, short for Dolores. I'm a man, Dude. But I'm definitely not in sorrow. You better ask my parents why.

In Hollywood, the name Shirley is pretty popular. Many female luminaries (Shirley MacLaine, for instance) find their names quite inappropriate for a famous star and exchange it for the name Shirley. The name Shirley has a strange ring to it. One way or another, it reminds me of a rock star, of a delicate bud, of a bright disco light, or even the sweet chuckle of a child.
Shirley Temple could've been one of those sweetest babies of Hollywood. Shirley Temple has used several screen names for each of her films. She used Lula, Polly, Betty, Mary Lou, Rebecca, Mytyl, and lots more funny feminine names. However, her original actress name remained stamped in the minds of moviegoers who have grown to love her.
In the female rock scene, Shirley Manson rules. Her name is a perverse combination of Shirley Temple and Charles Manson, which is meant to arouse curiosity. After all, Shirley Temple is sweet and Charles Manson is deadly. Apart from her red hair and flaming crimson lips, Shirley Manson is a real rock star with millions of following in the world. However, it is clear that her name is not deliberately derived from this so-called bittersweet combination.

I cannot pinpoint exactly when, but there was a time in recent years when the image of the moon, especially the crescent one, became a huge hit. Every shop and boutique I went to at the time, I saw shapes and styles of moon on shirts, pillows, bedsheets, mugs, bags, scrapbook picture stickers and frames, belts, jewelries, and other accessories. These moons came in different colors, but usually in shades of purple and yellow. Famous celebrities were sporting attires with moon designs on them. Even I cannot escape from the trend when my friend bought me a green pillow shaped like a crescent moon with gold stars stitched into them.
Then, just a few months before, I came across this Italian name, Cinzia. As you may have guessed, Cinzia is the Italian counterpart of the English name Cynthia. The name Cynthia is actually very common in the United States, with almost two thousand girls bearing the name in the last couple of years.
A few days ago, I made a quite surreal discovery. What is quite astounding is that Cynthia actually refers to a Greek god and literally means moon. Can't a person just get enough of the moon fad? Probably not, as proven by this instance.
But, in all fairness, I like the sound of Cinzia. When you pronounce it properly as "chin-sia," it has an exotic ring to it. Maybe the moon fever got me, after all.

One of the names I suddenly remembered while reading a book this morning is Enid. My thoughts wandered to the famous children's author, Enid Blyton, to a future baby girl whom I can call Enid. The name sounds really unique so I decided to check on it.
My research indicates that Enid is actually a Welsh label specially made for females. The name Enid pertains to soul or life in general, which is an appropriate reference, considering that Enid Blyton is quite famous in the artistic field. I would certainly hope that I get to meet a soulful Enid in the near future.

I have heard of Chloe as a cosmetic brand name, yet I do not hear it so often as a person's name. Nevertheless, Chloe sounds really attractive, so it is not surprising that more than nine thousand girls in America have it.
With the "C" pronounced as "K," the name supposedly is of Irish origin, but apparently some people associate Chloe to the individual name Claudia. The reason for this is not exactly clear. On the contrary, other people relate the name to a river in Ireland, to the bible, or to Greek myth.

Has anyone suggested that you name your baby girl Madonna? Ever considered of it because it is a name from one of the most famous era? Because it was popularized by a lady who sang her way to fame with "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin"?
Well, I think its a good name. There's an air of sacredness to it. Sometimes, Mary (or Maria in Spanish), the Mother of Jesus, is also called Madonna. And as a bonus, if your little girl ever decides to pursue in acting and singing, you'll surely know where she got her motivation.

It is quite common for female and girl names to denote and connote all that is beautiful, charming, or lovely. However, in the case of Bonni, the meaning cannot be further from the truth.
Bonni is derived from the French word bon which we all know refers to something that is good. When one considers its Scottish sense, Bonni means charming or pretty. The name Bonni also has different variations, but with similar meanings, such as Bonnie, Bonnie-Jo, Bonny-jean, and Bonny-lee.

For the longest time, I wondered about the origin of Tyra Banks' name, whether it has some sort of African meaning. According to what I found out, Tyra's ancient name form is Thyra which is a common label in Scandinavia.
Like the names of other girls, Thyra also has a mythical reference. The name Thyra actually stands for the goddess of war and justice, a figure in Norwegian mythology. In addition, Thyra has a male counterpart which is Tyr. Although she is not exactly a figure of justice, at least one can say that Banks lived out her life as a goddess through modeling.

Sometimes, the origin of some names could be different from the origin of their meanings. Take the name Marcella, for example. Although Marcella also stands for "little hammer", the supposedly Latin name refers to the French war god.
What is also somewhat confusing about this name is that Marcella is commonly used to label babies in Italy, thus its Italian significance. The name Marcella can be spelled with a single "L" as used in Spain, Romania and Portugal, and with an "E" instead of "A" as usual in France.

I remembered the time when my girl friend and I searched the her given name's implication as part of our mythology assignment in school. We were surprised to learn that Maia is indeed one of the names that bore significance in classical Roman mythology. According to our research, Maia actually means "Latin nurse" or mother and is perceived to be great.
The name also makes a reference to the goddess of spring, and describes Maia as something great. Well, no one could refute that last part.

A name whose face had launched a thousand ships. In Homer's Iliad, Helen of Troy was the underlying cause of the Trojan War - a war that saw the ruin of a great nation. Helen, the name not the person, originated in Greece which means "bright one" or "torch light." In a shallow sense, the fictional Helen lived up to her name.
Another Helen however, proved to be a sweet irony. Although being blind, deaf, and mute, Helen Keller is one of the greatest women who ever lived and remembered in history as a proponent for the physically challenged. Though spending her life in darkness, her plight did not stop Helen Keller from shining bright in the eyes of many.

Jo is pronounced as "Joh," and can be used by any gender. It has been around for a long time and many women have been given the name, and also a lot of men. The name can be added or mixed to any name because it's short and it goes with almost any names. Jo, sounds like a boy's name, but actually, it's also a girl's name.
Jo may be short for Joanna, Josephine, Jody or Jodean. In Louisa May Alcott's novel, " Little Women," the witty, second daughter is nicknamed Jo. Jo is originally an American name and very popular name in the United States. Not only is it used as a first name, it's also a very popular surname.

Rarely does a number become a person's name, but the given name Seven perfectly fits into this category. Little did I know that this could also be used for a female, and not just for a nickname.
Sevenstands for the seventh letter and aside from that, the name also has a biblical significance that most of us are aware of, such as the famous seventh day that became God's rest, and the creation of time into seven days. Thus, it can be considered that Seven symbolizes perfection and rest.

Combination names seem to be increasingly common and the same phenomenon holds true for girl names. For instance, the name Laurissa is a product of two names blended perfectly together, specifically the name Laura, which means laurel in Old English, and Melissa, which stands for honey bee in Greek.
Laurissa, the "laurel of honey" is quite unique because it was only given to not more than a hundred and fifty girls in the United States alone. This happened in two consecutive years, 2003 until 2004. Now, isn't that a good option for a name?

We do not often hear this name or commonly see the way it is written, but the name Aislyn is as lovely and unique as it sounds. Aislyn is actually of English origin and is believed to be the result of a combination of two Gaelic and Old English words, Aisling and Lyn, respectively.
Aisling means dream, while Lyn means beautiful, thereby making Aislyn a name that speaks of beautiful vision. Aislyn was used to name about a hundred girls in the United States in the years 2003 and 2004.

I have always been fascinated with Audrey Hepburn and I think her name suits her right. Audrey was a great dancer and a very good actress. All her films are still being shown today. She was, indeed, an icon of beauty. Audrey is an old English name, it means to be noble and have strength or noble strength. Audrey is a name which also signifies grace and class, just like the late Audrey Hepburn; she was really extraordinary.
